Calling all performers! P2 Productions (Pinelands Players) is excited to announce auditions for the Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray. Not only will this vibrant production take place at Cape Town’s prestigious Artscape Theatre in February 2019, but it will also feature 15 spectacular performances over three weeks. Whether you’re an actor, singer, or dancer, this is your perfect opportunity to showcase your talent in a beloved Broadway classic that celebrates equality and acceptance.
Set against the backdrop of 1962 Baltimore during the Civil Rights Movement, Hairspray tells the inspiring story of Tracy Turnblad, a plus-sized teen with an unstoppable dream. After earning a spot on The Corny Collins Show, Tracy quickly becomes a local celebrity. However, she soon faces discrimination due to her size, her friendships, and her bold personality. Determined to make a difference, she leads the charge to integrate the show, proving that everyone deserves a chance to shine.
Featuring iconic songs like Good Morning Baltimore, You Can’t Stop the Beat, and I Know Where I’ve Been, Hairspray is more than just a musical—it’s a high-energy celebration of diversity. Having won 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, its message of inclusion and standing up for what’s right remains powerfully relevant today.
